Fancy Makeover 8th Birthday Party
My daughter loves dressing up and having makeovers. We have always joked that she is a real life Fancy Nancy. As she is getting older I feel like the little girl things are starting to slip away. She is still at an age where she loves to play dress up and still wants to wear a dress everywhere she goes. But I know one day, without warning, that is going to stop… So while she still loves to get fancy and be extra girlie we had to have a fancy party! We asked all of her friends to wear their fanciest dresses and to come ready for the ultimate makeover! We decorated everything Loveshack Fancy style with lot’s of flowers, bows, light pink and light blue!
We almost always have the kids parties at the park because it gives us a lot of space at an affordable price! Reserving park space is so much cheaper than a venue. We used to have parties at our house but our new house is a fixer-upper and a long ways away from hosting parties at! Honestly I’ve come to love having parties at the park anyways because I don’t have to worry about cleaning my house before or after the party!
Also keep in mind that this party might look a lot more expensive than it is. My Mother-in-law and I both throw a lot of parties and because of that we have purchased a lot of party items so we never have to rent! I tend to stick with very similar color pallets so I can reuse a lot of items!
I love to set up these little kids picnics tables because it’s the perfect spot for crafts, cake, food and hanging out. But it’s also such a cute way to decorate for a party! Because this is a makeover party we set each place setting with their own makeover mirror, a makeup bag, and glasses. Later on when we do makeovers I passed out the supplies so that it didn’t get misplaced during other activities.
I set up the low table using 2 of these storage bins and a piece of plywood. Pro tip you can actually get it cut down to the exact size you want in store! Then I use throw pillows as the seats and depending on the party theme I change out the pillow covers!
The first thing the girls did when they arrived was to get their hair done! We set up this little hair station with a cute vanity and kid sized chair for the girls to sit in while they got their hair done! We also used this little tray table to store all the supplies. It was set up cute but unfortunately I didn’t get a picture of the set up and this was taken as we were cleaning the party up!
We asked everyone to come with their hair clean, down and brushed so we could easily style their hair. I am a hairstylist and love doing cute hairstyles so this was super fun for me! Because I didn’t want to spend the entire time doing hair and wanted the kids to get their hair done quickly, I brought in an assistant and we kept the styles basic. I had made a little sign to put out with the style options so the girls could pick what they wanted! We also brought hair jewels and glitter gel to make everyone feel extra special! I bought enough hair brushes and combs so that each girl could have their own. After their hair was done they got to take their brush and comb and go put it in their makeup bag at their table.
While girls were getting their hair done we had the other girls head to the craft table to make a craft. I ordered these really cute purses for each of the girls and we had them make their own bag charms to go on them! You can use this kit to make them! We also got Pom Pom keychains to add on to the bag charms! My daughter also loves making bead pens so we had those out for everyone to make as well! You can use this kit to make bead pens!
We set up this table with all the craft supplies and stored all the purses on the shelf next to it. This worked perfectly because we did every activity in waves and little stations so we could have adults help when needed! And that way when girls were waiting to get their hair done they had something to do!
Doing all the girls hair ended up taking a bit longer than we expected so once they finished the crafts we had everyone sit down at the table for food. We packaged up little boxes of food that each had a croissant sandwich inside. I love doing food this way for the kids parties at the park because it’s easy to prep and keeps it sanitary for everyone to eat! Once the girls were seated they each got their boxed sandwich. We also had a table set up for the cake that had extra desserts and finger foods the girls snacked on.
I love using this table arch over the top of the kids picnic tables because it adds such a pretty element! We used pool noodles over the top to stick artificial flowers into. I added all the flowers into the noodles the night before so the day of I just had to pop them on top of the arch! We wrapped the sides with pink feather boas and added these draping crystals down the center. I was so happy with how it turned out!
Once everyone was done eating and we had cleaned up all the food it was time to do makeovers! Because we had already bought each of the girls a lot of stuff we didn’t have room in the budget to buy them all their own makeup. Instead they each got their own beauty blender and then we bought liquid highlighter and blush that we put on to plastic plates for them to dab on to their faces. We also gave each girl a container of hair gel, a container of loose glitter, and a toothpick and they got to mix up their own hair/body glitter. I bought a multipack of these little containers and the night before I filled one up with gel and one up with loose glitter. Every girl got 1 of each and it made it such an easy way for them to do this activity! After we passed out all the supplies I taught them how to apply their makeup and mix their glitter. They had SO much fun learning to do makeup, mixing things up and putting it on!
I also gave every girl a pair of these pink heart shaped sunglasses that I beaded with pearls and personalized their name on to them! I love doing these glasses as party favors because my kids friends love them and use them forever. It’s so fun to see the kids still loving and using them months later! If you use this glue it will stay really well! But be warned that it will take around 24 hours to set/dry so you’ll definitely want to make these in advance! I also don’t recommend letting kids handle this glue on their own. I used these glasses , these letter beads , this glue , and these pearls to make the party favors. It was a little time consuming but a fun project to do after the kids were in bed and honestly didn’t take too long!
Another thing I prepped in advance was adding little name tags to all of their makeup bags that way no one lost theirs and it also served as a little name tag at the table that way kids knew where their seat was! I had these tags on hand already and use them for so many things so they are always great to have in stock!
Once we finished makeovers it was time for a fashion show! At this point they had their hair and makeup done and had each decorated a purse to walk with! They all grabbed their sunglasses that I had beaded with their names on to and I passed out feather boas! We turned on some music and headed to the fashion show set up!
For their runway I ordered this little pink runner and used the pink velvet ropes and stanchions I had leftover from previous parties. I got this Gold heart arch because I thought it would be so fun for the girls to walk through the heart and I know we will use it for future parties! We rolled out this pink sparkly runner as if it were a pink carpet, turned on some fun music and the girls had a blast walking the runway! They just kept going again and again while the parents acted as paparazzi!
We also had this photo backdrop set up for them to take pictures! My Mother-in-law had this couch and the flower box sign leftover from a wedding! They were the perfect addition to my arches! I love using these arches because they store in a box, set up easily, and all you have to do is swap out the covers to match each party theme! One quick tip- I learned that if you’re using a printed cover like the blue one here- you should do a white one underneath it! It helps it be more solid and not see-through! You can see the white one on the right is pretty see-through so I should have doubled that one up too! For the balloons I had ordered a kit to make the little white ones look like a string of pearls! It was a lot easier to make than I expected it to be! For the flowers on the top right I used artificial flowers I already had on hand and poked them into a cut up pool noodle! The pool noodles stick on to the edge of the arch super easily! This is the blue cover I used on the center arch, make sure you check the size to get the right one! These are the white arch covers I used!
After the fashion show we had each of the girls head to the photo backdrop to get a picture with the birthday girl! We brought a photo printer and printed out a picture for each of them to go into a frame that they decorated. If you plan on bringing a photo printer make sure you have an outlet to plug in to! We didn’t so we brought a little portable generator. We got the frames at the Dollar Tree and also bought sticky Jewels from there so they could decorate with them. I love using these sticky jewels for party crafts because they are mess free and so cute!
Next it was time for cake! Everyone headed back to the little table to sing happy birthday and have cake! I always love seeing all the little kids sitting at the table together! It’s just so cute!!
My husband’s aunt always makes cakes for my kids birthday parties and she does such a great job! I think she did a great job matching the loveshack fancy theme!
After cake I poured sparkling cider into plastic champagne glasses. The girls did a toast and had soooo much fun drinking their special drinks! They kept asking for more refills and we went through a few bottles of sparkling juice!
The kids all had so much fun and the party was so cute! Every year I say this but this year I think it really might have been my favorite party!
